Rainbow Snippets – March 18th 2017

For the past few weeks I have been working on the first book in the Treasured series, and I am pleased to announce it is now available on Amazon! Coincidentally, it’s time for me to post another Rainbow Snippet, so I decided to combine the two together. For those of you who don’t know, Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group where you share a set of sentences from a work that has LGBT related content. If you want to check out this great community for yourselves, be sure to check them out for yourself.

This segment is from the newly released A Treasured Find, and focuses on a dance scene which is both romantic and slightly teasing.

Just as Caleb was about to start his penultimate routine, he suddenly felt a warm hand rest itself onto his shoulder.

Worrying he had been caught out, Caleb spun around to hurriedly apologise, but the figure he saw was the one that he least expected to see.

Varron Sevarine was dressed in his usual genie attire, but had substituted his usual bare feet look with a pair of golden crystal shoes. He wore a black top hat upon his head, and was holding a rose between his perfectly formed teeth.

“Would you allow me the honour of joining you in this dance?”

Varron’s voice seemed to be echoing inside Caleb’s head for that moment, which was fortunate because of the rose that was currently situated inside of it.

Giving a smile, Caleb turned around and wrapped his left arm around the genie, and held out his hand for Varron to hold. The genie lifted the rose out of his teeth, and tucked it gently behind Caleb’s ear.

“Do you do this with every person that gives you your freedom?” Caleb asked with a faint laugh.

Varron gave him a slight grin in return.

“They might have given me freedom for mere moments, but you are the only man who has allowed me to be free to follow my heart.”

With that, Varron led his Hiraeth to the centre of the dance floor. The light changed in that moment, creating a spotlight that was focused directly on the two men. The music came slowly shifted to play a tune that was more beautiful than anything Caleb had ever heard.

Taking his cue, the genie began to guide Caleb around the room, allowing the man to dance as he felt as he could, but also bringing him close when they could perform a move that required them both. All the while, Caleb found himself looking at Varron in a way that filled him with mixed emotions.

When the witch had first released the genie from his prison, Caleb had felt an undeniable attraction to him. It was as if Varron was the centre of his world, and that he was the most handsome and beautiful man Caleb had ever seen. The more time he spent with him, the more Caleb wondered if there was a chance that the two were somehow meant to be together.

On a side note, I would like to thank every member of the group who has offered me kind words so far. Your support and friendship mean the world to me. I hope you enjoyed everyone enjoyed this little snippet, and will consider having a glimpse at the completed work.

Rainbow Snippets – February 11th 2017

After a brief break, it’s time for me to post another snippet of an up and coming work on Rainbow Snippets. For those of you who don’t know, Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group where you share a set of sentences from a work that has LGBT related content. This segment is from the Treasured series, and was co-created by AuldMisdione, the deviantArt user who helped me bring the characters of the story to life.As a special treat, here is a picture of Magnus and Ceispen, the kings of the Northern Kingdom that was drawn by another deviantArt user named AutumnAlchemy. You can find it below, or visit the original deviantArt page where it was uploaded.

For this Rainbow Snippet, I decided to offer you the remainder of the backstory of Varron’s parents. If you missed the first part, be sure to check the previous post.

The day finally came before Magnus’s thirtieth birthday, and although the lion shifter wanted to be with his true mate more than anything, his duty to his pride would have to come first. Besides, they would have an eternity to spend at each other’s side once this was over.

Magnus used the Grand Magister’s gifted wish to find a woman who would honour his promise to mate with Ceispen, whilst at the same time standing by his side as the Alpha Female of the pride. As Ceispen granted his Hiraeth’s wish, he gave his beloved a final kiss of farewell, and disappeared into the lamp, which vanished as soon as the prince had disappeared inside it.

Later that evening, Magnus bonded with a lioness by the name of Xelena, who was also seeking a political marriage to escape the clutches of her less than favourable pride. So from that day forward, Magnus and Xelena took over the running of the pride.

For the next hundred years, the two shifters guided, fought and shared food together, but they never consummated their desires through any sexual encounters. The day came when it was the turn of Xelena’s son, whose father had been slain by her former pride to take the position as leader.

Thanking her for her many years of loyalty, both Magnus and Xelena went their separate ways, and lived in retirement to await the beginning of the next stage of their lives.

A few months had passed, and Magnus pined for his handsome genie more than ever before. His waiting came to an end when Magnus was given a letter through the bottom of his front door one windy afternoon.

The letter read,

“Dearest Magnus,

I am reaching the end of my service, and I cannot wait to lay eyes upon you once more. My parents have informed me that they wish to meet your acquaintance before I return home. When you ready to do so, simply tap the wax seal three times, and you will be taken directly to the palace.

Stay strong my beloved Hiraeth, I shall be with soon.”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Magnus made himself look presentable, and tapped the wax seal with a shaking hand.

When he had arrived at the palace, he had been welcomed with open arms by King Dreimos and his bride Queen Peregrine. They had shared a delicious meal, and talked about the man who would be the future king. The royal couple invited him to stay in their son’s bedroom for the night, and then he could return once the prince had come home.

As Magnus entered the prince’s chambers, he was surprised to pick up a familiar scent. Looking over at the balcony, he saw a flying carpet was headed towards him, and riding on top of it was his beloved mate. After a heart warming reunion, Magnus and Ceispen completed their mate bond, and within a week of their reunion the two men were pronounced to be married.

During the ceremony, Magnus was transformed into a genie, so he could be equal in both power and authority to all of the people of his new home. Magnus was relieved to discover that he could still become his lion after he had been changed, a fact which Ceispen had confirmed before the two men took their vows during their marriage ceremony.

After the grand event had taken place, Dreimos and Peregrine decided to abdicate, leaving Ceispen, and his beloved Magnus to ascend to become the kings of the Northern Kingdom.

Rainbow Snippets – January 28th 2017

For the third time in 2017, it’s time for me to post a snippet of an up and coming work on Rainbow Snippets. For those of you who don’t know, Rainbow Snippets is a Facebook group where you share a set of sentences from a work that has LGBT related content. If you want to check out this great community for yourselves, be sure to check them out for yourself.

This segment is from A Treasured Find series, and was co-written by AuldMisdione, the deviantArt user who helped me bring the characters of the story to life. For this Rainbow Snippet, I decided to offer you a sample from the backstory of Varron’s parents.

As Magnus entered the tent, a wonderful scent reached his nostrils, and his instincts screamed to him that he had at long last be discovering the identity of his mate. The young adult shifter entered the main body of the tent, and came face to face with Ceispen Sevarine for the very first time.

The handsome blonde genie prince had instantly sensed the connection between them, and the Grand Magister did nothing but watch the two men as their connection came into life. At the time, Magnus learned that the Grand Magister had summoned Ceispen from inside an old copper lamp he had discovered in the mines, and intended to give Magnus one of his three wishes as a gift before he could take the throne.

Sensing the connection that was brewing, the Grand Magister congratulated Magnus on finding the man he was meant to be together with. However, there was still the issue of who would lead the pride.

Ceispen explained to Magnus that he was in line for his own throne in the Northern Kingdom, and that he was merely performing his mandatory community service of three hundred wishes to complete his training to become a crown sovereign. As soon as he had granted the last of the wishes, he would no longer be the Genie of the Lamp, and then they could be together as fate intended.

For the next week, the two men spent several hours together, to build the bond that could endure the years that they would be apart. Very few people in the pride would have considered their union to anything particular, as their religion did not bar two men or women from joining together in matrimony, but Magnus and Ceispen kept their bond a secret from all but their closest family.

Several Pictures Painted From Over A Thousand Words

You may remember some time ago that I shared with you some samples of a work in progress book named A Treasured Find, which features characters which I created together with AuldMisdione from deviantArt. After having a discussion, we have decided to share the commissions that he got of Caleb Grimaldi and Varron Sevarine, the characters we created. Bear in mind that the artwork was not created by either of us, but they perfectly paint the picture of the characters we want to share with the world. If you click the caption beneath the picture, it will take you to the original page where the picture was uploaded.

I hope you enjoy looking at these pictures as much as me and AuldMisdione do. I also thought I would share two songs that I feel sum up their relationship perfectly. There is another reason for the second song, as I believe that Varron’s singing voice would sound like Rick Astley. 🙂

That’s all for now, thanks for reading for this jam packed post.

Unfinished Sample – Safety of Shifters

Thank you so much for all the new likes, and for everyone that has followed my account so far. As a token of my gratitude, here is another of my unfinished works. Once again, if anyone would like to use the base ideas included in these ideas, please feel free, but a small acknowledgement for the inspiration would be appreciated.

Without further ado, here is a sample from one of my earlier unfinished works, named Safety of Shifters. It was the story of a young man who discovers he is the mate of a alpha werewolf, but does not appreciate being watched like a celebrity everywhere that he goes.

At that moment, I realised that although I didn’t exactly trust him, the beta werewolf had been right about what he had said. Rowan had fallen for me completely, and in doing so had handed me a power I didn’t feel I deserved. As his mate, I could destroy him, or give him eternal happiness.

Having seen so many couples in my line of work, it was amazing how different it felt to be on the receiving end of a boundless affection. To be connected to someone on such a primal level was beautiful. But at the same time, I wanted to run and never turn back.

Although half of me wanted to let him claim me, I was my own person, and I didn’t want to be observed every hour by a strangers eyes. Much as I beginning to trust the werewolf, there was anger inside me that I needed to sate, and an issue that needed to be addressed.

Walking through the plush carpeted hallways of the pack mansion, I felt the presence of the shifters in their rooms, Most of them were simply resting with the ones they loved, as it was in the early hours of the morning.

I passed several of Rowan’s wolves on the way to his office. I wasn’t stopped, as they all knew exactly what I meant to their leader. A few of them did give me looks that pierced my fake confidence, and replaced it for a split second with uncertainty and indecision. The door to Rowan’s room was open, allowing me to walk in uninvited. The alpha himself spun around, and upon seeing me, his grim expression changed to a look of untraceable pleasure.

Once again, seeing the man invoked the yet to be completed bond between us. I almost suspected that if my emotion hadn’t been so strong, it would have been lost. My eyes narrowed and I walked further into the room, not breaking my armoured gaze. Stopping a few inches from the wolf, I let loose a stare of unfiltered ire. A look of confusion washed over the alpha’s face.

“Is something wrong my love?” he asked, his gorgeous voice almost sweeping me off my feat.

“Cut the crap Rowan, I know about the guards. You promised me that I would be left alone.”

I don’t know if I expected him to be hurt by my words, or to try and make me see whatever twisted logic had convinced him to betray me. To my surprise, he didn’t flinch, he merely looked quizzical.

“Why should that make you angry? I know of plenty of people who would give their right arm for protection from my pack.”

A fresh wave of anger boiled up, and before I could stop myself, I slapped him hard across the face.

“I didn’t ask for your protection you egotistical bastard!” I yelled, making every word louder than the last.

His eyes turned to me, and I saw they had become amber, like his wolf form. This could only mean that his animal was close to the surface.

“Would you rather I stayed at your back at all times?” he growled.

“No, but you can’t just put people around me that watch my every move. It’s creepy, and not to mention illegal!”

The man scoffed.

“For human’s maybe, but shifters are allowed by our law sto pursue the mate of another, to keep them from coming to any harm!”

I gave a bitter laugh.

“So you don’t trust me to keep myself safe. I asked you to do one thing for me, and you still went against your word!”

Rowan’s eyes began to calm, but his expression was still stone cold.

“I said I would not follow you, I said nothing of asking someone to watch over you, just in case you were taken by one of the enemies of the pack.”

“What are you talking about? Why in the world would I be on someone’s hitlist?”

“The whole town know nows that you are my mate. If any of the people who want to eliminate us capture you because of our bond, I would never forgive myself.”

Unfinished Sample – The Azuran Apprentice

A painful truth about being an author is that not every idea you have in your head will make it into a book, and several stories will end up never being published. In order to get some regular content onto the blog whilst I get the final details sorted for my other books, I thought I would share some of the ideas I have had over the last few years. They are unedited, and have a writing style that is not consistent with my current one, but it would be a shame to see them locked away forever.

If anyone would like to use the base ideas included in these ideas, please feel free, but a small acknowledgement for the inspiration would be appreciated.

Without further ado, here is a sample from one of my earlier unfinished works, named The Azuran Apprentice. It was the story of a young man who discovers powerful magic within himself, and tries to manage it whilst living a normal life.

As soon as I had proudly admitted my use of the spell, the whole of the coven tensed.

“You did what?” Kertos asked.

“I created a familiar,” I repeated slowly.

“Without asking us?” Kertos’s voice had risen in anger.

There was no mistaking that I had clearly I had crossed some kind of line. Not that I was aware of it. For a moment, I was worried the council would do something drastic, but without warning, the burn mark I had gained on my arm the previous day burned bright. Because it was still sore, it hurt just as much as well. I yelled and grabbed my arm just below the burn to try and dull it, but it was no use.

“What is happening?” Kertos yelled.

“His familiar is coming of its own accord,” Jedara said with apparent interest.

And as could be expected, she was right. Magical energy swirled around in the air and a second later, there was a flash of thunder and it formed into the part dragon, part werewolf figure of Brandaar. No matter how many times I looked at him, he looked absolutely incredible. Just the right mixture of powerful and beautiful. And at that moment, boy did he look annoyed.

“What are you doing to my master?” he roared.

“It is none of your business familiar; it is between us and your conjurer,” Kertos said grimly.

“He performed a spell just as you asked. You did not specify which spells were not to be used. As such, he did know that it was a highly advanced spell, or that it would incur your wrath.”

If he would have his own way, Kertos would have run up to Brandaar and issued a warning, but Jedara held up her hand.

“He is right Kertos, we did not explain the dangers. The young Azuran is still alive and there appears to be no negative side effect to the summoning of this familiar, so I can judge that no harm will come to Alex, if he is informed of the rules and follows them to the best of his ability.”

Brandaar bowed on one knee to Jedara.

“You have my word that I will guide him so he respects and uses The Power with respect.”

Jedara nodded.

“I trust you. May I ask your name?”

“I am Brandaar of the Dracan.”

“Then Brandaar, you are welcome among us just as your conjurer. May you guide your master well.”

“I will.”

With that, Brandaar vanished in a flash of light, accompanied by another clap of thunder.

Needless to say, the whole room was stunned, and so was I.
